In the United States , it ’ s not unusual to see ghosts and pumpkins to celebrate Halloween , while in Mexico , the streets are flooded with papel picado , marigolds , and sugar skulls for the Day of the Dead . You ’ ve probably had to make an altar for the dead at some point in your life . Keep in mind , it ’ s not all about arranging things to “ look pretty .” That ’ s right , the specific order of the objects on an altar has its reason for being and they are necessary for our Day of the Dead offerings to be impeccable .
WHAT DO THE LEVELS ON AN ALTAR OF THE
DEAD MEAN ?
The altars , depending on their levels , have different meanings :
• 2 levels : represents the division of heaven and earth .
• 3 levels : represent heaven , earth , and the underworld .
