Why Georgetown
Parks & Recreation
Abundant in natural resources, Georgetown’s
lake, rivers, and greenspaces provide scenic
settings
for
outdoor
activities.
The
Parks
Department maintains more than 30 parks, an
extensive trail system, outdoor athletic facilities,
indoor and outdoor pools, and a 65,000 sq. ft.
recreation center. There is no shortage of fun
in Georgetown. You can escape the heat with a
dip in Blue Hole, or roast marshmallows during
the cool season at Cedar Breaks Park or Jim Hogg
Park. Take in the fresh air on the hike and bike
trails from San Gabriel Park to Lake Georgetown,
or join the many fitness classes and programs at
the Recreation Center. Watch the kids scale the
rock wall and race down the many slides at the
city’s Creative Playscape.
Garey Park
Jack and Cammy Garey donated their beautiful
525-acre ranch and an additional five million
dollars for park development to the city of
Georgetown. The rolling hills of the park-land that
bears the Garey name stretches from RM2243 to
the San Gabriel River providing the opportunity to
create a variety of recreation features. The recently
opened park includes a playground, splash pad,
dog park, equestrian area, the Garey House event
space, pavilions, and more than 6 miles of hiking
and equestrian trails. From fishing to Frisbee
to weddings and photo ops, area residents are
discovering the beauty of this incredible gift from
the Garey's to the community.
