Like Hutto , the Hutto Economic Development Corporation has experienced significant change from its origins when over 71 % of Hutto voters approved its funding in a citywide election held on May 4 , 1996 . The vote levied “ an additional sales and use tax within the City of Hutto for the promotion and development of new and expanded business enterprise at the rate of one-half of one cent .” The half cent Section A ( Formerly 4A ) economic development sales tax revenue has grown from approximately $ 40,000 annually to currently almost $ 800,000 annually .
Today the Hutto Economic Development Corporation is lauded as a model economic development organization among entities serving communities its size .
