Wallaroo Update Reflecting on the last 12 months since myself and the “Smith St crew” came together, we have had lots of firsts. (It makes me teary to reflect if I am honest on how far we have come and all the great achievements in such a short period of time). A first for the men moving from family homes and other accommodation to build new friendships, in a new environment with a brand-new team. A big transition with BIG benefits, Matthew, David, Nick and Lucas have all flourished with this next step in their lives – together and as individuals. The staff and residents have worked hard to create new friendships and trust bringing out the best in everyone. It has also been a first for EBL having regional accommodation services “our” side of Port Wakefield, but the support myself and the team has received has been amazing. Our little country family keeps very busy. We love swimming in the summer and fishing which we are lucky to have on our door step. We have attended many outings including EBL Christmas party, Razzamatazz show, often going around the Peninsula for picnics and BBQ’s, local sporting events, day trips and recently attending Kernerwick Lowender, just to name a few! At home, we love singing and dancing to music, even with the staff’s average attempts (mine in particular; I do not think I was hired for my karaoke skills!?!) We love our homes, there are always smiles and we are starting to create a veggie patch that I can use to ensure something is always cooking, which I am often doing around the homes! It has been a whirlwind 12 months but to see the happiness and progress of each of these gentlemen has been so rewarding for myself and the entire team; who do an amazing job. We are always trying to improve and enrich each day and I am sure the next 12 months will be just as exciting! Sarah Gay House Manager 16 EBL QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER
