Easy English with Teacher J volume # 2 | Page 5

my private students learning a list of vocabulary words, I will say the word out loud and then use it in a sentence. The student will then write the word. At the end of the list I check the spelling and if there are errors I will write the word correctly on the white board. Then I ask the students to write the word they misspelled five times and say the spelling of each word out loud. This type of verbal repetition stays with the student and really helps them out when exam time comes around. The next class with the student I will give the same list, but this time errors will be written ten times, next time fifteen times. When I feel the students have at least 75% of the words memorized I will add a few new words. Its is important not to overload the student. I may start out with nine Dolche words and then later add nine more and etc. It is ok to ask them to spell lots and lots of words as long as they have mastered them in a slow steady pace previously. Try this at home and make sure the student says the letters out loud as they write each word.

If you have hung around at Dinosaur Camp in the mornings, you will recognize this song. Truthfully, I am a bit shy around the singing and dancing because I am just not very good at either. However, many kids learn words and lyrics from music very quickly and it is an excellent exercise for learning English language.
