On the 17th of July 2016 the
team here at Chatter and the
staff from Full Circle ran the
Race For Life.
The Race for Life has
been running for over 20 years
and in that time more than 8
million women have come
together to complete the 5k or
10k. Runners raise money for
Cancer Research UK. This funds
scientists who research cancers
and their possible cures.
The good thing about
Race for Life is that is doesn’t
matter if walk, jog or run it –
it’s about completing it rather
than “winning”. Some people
choose to come dressed up as
fictional characters or in
onesies. Some people even come
along with their dogs and
pushchairs! The Chatter team all
decided to do the race wearing
something pink.
When you arrive you go
and collect your race number.
All competitors must have their
number pinned to their t-shirt.
Once that is pinned on
you need to make your way to
the starting area. Here there is
a group warm up that everyone
can join in with if they want to
stretch and warm up their
muscles.
Finally you are called
into different groups depending
on what you think your finish
time will be. This means that
you do the race with a group of
people who will be going at a
similar speed to you. You line up
and wait to start.
If you want an accurate
time look just before you start
the time on the clock because by
the time the walking group
started the timer was already on
7 minutes.
At the half way point
lots of people starting to slow
because they were getting really
tired. The Eastern Chatter group
powered on through and we all
finished the race.
After crossing the Race
for Life finishing line we were
given: a dog tag medal, a bottle
of water and a pain au chocolat.
We had loads of fun and
raised over £200 for Cancer
Research – Thank you to all who
sponsored us!
