Spring is a time for Easter dresses, chocolate rabbits, and baby animals. No Easter gathering is
complete without family, friends, and an egg hunt. However finding a rotten egg several months
later is not as much fun. What are some other fun ways to play with eggs at a children’s Easter
party?
Many parents opt for these new ideas for Easter parties in lieu of traditional methods. Playing
games makes hunting for Easter eggs that much more enjoyable. Dress up your egg hunt with
some of these tips.
Alternative Eggs – Dying chicken eggs can bring a lot of traditional fun. However, the
smelly mess created by a rotten egg is less so. In lieu of the traditional hard boiled eggs,
many people are opting for plastic eggs filled with treats and prizes. You can also use
decorative eggs made from papier-mâché, glass, wood, glass or twine – available at most
home décor stores.
Treasure Maps – Treasure maps make an entertaining way to keep track of every single
egg in the game.² You could also put a scrap of paper with a clue inside of plastic eggs.
Each egg contains a hint on how to find the next egg, which encourages problem
solving.³ Or tear up a copy of the treasure map and put each one inside an egg.
Decorating Eggs – Set up a decorating station to paint paper, fabric, wood and glass
eggs. Then each guest can take one home as a memento. Pre-made egg painting kits such
as these are available at craft stores or online. You may want to include stamps, glitter,
stickers, or other embellishments for the children to use.
Pin the Bunny – Pin the tail on the bunny is similar to pin the tail on the donkey, except
you use a fluffy, cotton ball. Another version of this activity involves putting eggs in the
rabbit’s basket.
Golden Tickets – Put a golden piece of paper into a select few plastic eggs. The child
who finds one of these special eggs will qualify for a special prize. Some ideas for the
grand prize include chocolate bunnies, pink dresses, or fancy gift baskets.
Egg Toss – The egg toss is an entertaining outdoor activity that anyone can play. This
throwing game involves throwing raw eggs from person to person. The idea is to keep the
egg unbroken, but when it inevitably busts, the results are really funny. Have everyone
pair up or have people toss eggs in a chain.
Egg Relay Race – In this game, eggs are balanced on spoons in a relay race. Make sure
that the eggs you use are suitable to balance on a spoon, because the hollow plastic kind
tend to blow away.
