BECAUSE HE LIVES
Jesus told His disciples,“ Because I live, you also will live”( John 14:19). Three days after His crucifixion, He revealed His matchless power over death when He rose from the dead. Jesus is alive today and forever! Because He lives, you too can live eternally and abundantly.
Without Jesus, we are all separated from God and dead in sin. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that“ all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” As sinners, there is nothing we can do that will ever be good enough to save ourselves from the consequence of sin, which is eternal separation from God in hell. But God has given us a gift— the gift of eternal life through Jesus( Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9).
According to 1 Peter 2:24,“‘ He himself bore our sins’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;‘ by his wounds you have been healed.’” Because He is God, Jesus did for us what we could not do for ourselves. He paid the price for our sins through His own death on the cross and His resurrection three days later. Therefore, it is only through Jesus that
we can be saved from the punishment of sin and have a new life with Him now and for eternity. There is nothing you can do to earn or deserve this salvation. It is a gift.
Right now, you too can have the gift of eternal life through Jesus! Romans 10:9 says,“ If you confess with your mouth,‘ Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” You may use this sample prayer as a guide:
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that there is nothing I can do to earn my way into heaven. I believe that Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection paid the penalty for my sins. Thank You for forgiving my sins and saving me by Your grace. Help me to follow You from this day forward. Amen.
