WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 13/23 7th August 2013 Kia ora Next week we welcome Sharon Pickering to our staff. Sharon has been employed for the remainder of the year, teaching year one students in the hall. We are very fortunate to have Sharon join our team. Check out her classroom, it is already looking very impressive. As part of our theme Reduce, Recycle ….. this term, we are heading to the Hamilton Zoo to look at animal enrichment. Our aim is for children to make objects to keep a animal healthy and active. School children will travel in buses. We would appreciate parent help with supervision however all parents will travel by car. Car pooling is a great idea. Please fill in the slip below if you can help. The Board of Trustees are subsidizing this trip, however we do require each tamariki to pay $7.00 . At times we pay for some whanau because money is tight or children would miss out of the school didn’t pay. Our last event-Kahurangi was disappointing with a third of whanau choosing not to pay. All children attended because it was an experience not to be missed, however this can not continue. Please pay our Hamilton Zoo fee of $7 per person by Friday 16th of August. We want the whole school to attend. Unfortunately no preschoolers can attend this day due to our huge junior school and need for active supervision. Our mathelon is next week. Please collect sponsors to as part of our school fundraiser. All money raised will go towards our Hamilton Zoo trip. Making money and learning at the same time. Awesome!! Do you like making yoghurt? We have a significant number of yoghurt sachets at school to give away. Come into the office and grab some. Enjoy the rest of your week Nga mihi nui koutou Emily ([email protected]) MATHELON Please bring you sponsor sheets back to school on Monday 12th August and the Mathelon will take place on Monday or Tuesday. You child’s score will be entered onto the sponsor sheet and sent home again to collect the sponsored amount of money. The money raised will go towards the school trip to Hamilton Zoo. FONTERRA MILK FOR SCHOOLS Last week we kicked off our daily milk in schools programme. Each child has a container of milk available to them each day. It is whanau choice if you do not want your child to participate in this. KIDSCAN MUFTI DAY On Friday 9th August we will be holding a Mufti Day to raise funds for KidsCan. KidsCan is the organisation who has supplied the school this year with sunhats, raincoats, woolly scarves and beanies, some shoes and some food. Please support this very worthy charity by donating $2 per child and dressing in mufti. BREAKFAST CLUB Robin needs another person to help with Breakfast club on Monday mornings. Please see the office or Robin if you can help. YEAR 5 & 6 BASKETBALL Basketball for year 5 & 6 students starts next week at the Waihi Events centre. 3.30–5pm .Thursdays. All names to the office please. A parent is needed to supervise the team every week. Please see the office if you can help. HABITS OF MIND Our HOM for this week continues to be “Thinking Interdependently.” Work together! Being able to work in and learn from others in reciprocal situations.. CHOCOLATES We still have boxes of chocolates for sale at school. For every box sold your family goes into the draw for a brand new BMX bike. MINIBALL We are needing helpers/coaches and refs for our Friday after school year 1 & 2 miniball teams starting next week. Please let Briar know if you can help. No experience necessary. All welcome.
