ACTIVTIES IN t WAIROA MoRERE HOTSPRINGS 40kms | | This is the perfect all-weather destination. Come for a hot soak on a rainy and cold day or go for a walk on a dry day. There are four different walking tracks suiting different fitness levels. If you are a fan of caving discover the Mangaone Caves that are located approximately 10 mins from Mōrere, between Mōrere and Nūhaka. The caves are the perfect destination for a family afternoon trip. MaHIA PENINSULA 70kms | The Māhia Peninsula doesn't only offer sandy beaches and rocket launches there are many other things to be enjoyed. With the locals the Māhia Peninsula is popular for its many diving and fishing spots. There are sandy beaches to fish from as well as rocky areas. Dive for Paua, Kina and Crayfish and enjoy the clear waters. Go for a walk in the Māhia Peninsula scenic reserve and enjoy the cool and shady bush on a hot summer day. THE GAIETY THEATRE 0kms | | The Gaiety Theatre was Wairoa’s first cinema. It was originally built in 1928, collapsed in the 1931 earthquake but was quickly rebuilt. Over the years it closed and opened its doors, but in 2015 it was re-opened for good. Since then it is open five days a week (Wednesday to Sunday) and is showing a selection of recent movies. It also hosts events like the popular Long River concerts.
