PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COURSES ENGLISH ENGLISH AS A EMPLOYABILITY FAMILY AND MATHS – SECOND LANGUAGE AND COMPUTING LEARNING FUNCTIONAL SKILLS (ESOL) ARTS, CRAFTS AND TEXTILES English and Maths Functional Skills Functional Skills (FS) English and Maths Functional Skills courses are based on real life situations/activities and can be adapted to suit your own needs. Here are some practical examples, which will vary from level to level. On a FS English course you may for example learn how to write or answer an email, how to prepare for and do a job interview, discuss the news or use a cash machine. On a FS Maths course you may learn how to calculate the amount of paint you need to apply for two coats on a living room wall and ceiling, or how to calculate percentages on a credit card repayment. Functional Skills English and Maths are a mandatory component of Diplomas, Foundation Learning Programmes and apprenticeships. They can be studied as a stand-alone qualification or as a stepping stone to GCSE. Our courses range from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 (equivalent to a D at GCSE). The full level FS English consists of exams in the following: 1. Speaking and listening 2. Reading 3. Writing Assessment for FS Maths is by a single examination at the end of the course.
