“When the opportunity came, obviously his
teammates believed in him. They didn’t skip
a beat. They just kept playing and playing and
did some amazing things and the same thing
happened this year (2018).”
For teammates to believe, according to Foles,
it starts in the locker room – earning trust
from teammates on and off the fi eld. From his
introductory press conference in March, Foles
laid out the importance of the locker room and
the relationships formed there.
“I think the big thing for me in any team sport
and especially football is the locker room and
just getting to know one another,” Foles said
immediately after signing. “It’s just bonding in the
locker room and getting to know one other and
going out there and creating that brotherhood.
“I know it’s already begun here, and I’m a new
player here, so I have to get to know everyone.
That’s really it. We want to complicate football
with Xs and Os, and that is such an important
part of the game, but the most important part
is the locker room and that relationship thing.
That’s where my focus has always been and
always will be.”
On the Field
Those relationships and conversations from
the offseason program, from March through
Organized Team Activities, have set the
foundation for building a consistent winner.
Now that 2019 Training Camp is here, the
conversations have turned to improving the
entire football team, not just the offense.
“We’re able to talk about the ins and the outs of
maybe route running, what I’m thinking, talking
to the DBs, what they see,” Foles said early in
2019 Training Camp. “I’m not just talking to the
offensive guys, I want to see what the defense
sees, I want to see what they’re thinking based
on our splits, what they’re seeing based on my
footwork, because I feel like we can make each
other better as a team.
“We have a lot of talented players here, so we
just have to keep giving each other knowledge.”
From the other side of the ball, nothing but high
praise from a certain pair of cornerbacks.
