Let ’ s consider an example . I am lying in a comfortable position and given the opportunity to relax for a few minutes , but I find myself feeling tense , anxious or even sad . I cannot receive the benefits of this quiet moment to restore myself and in fact might recognize that this is mirrored in my sleep patterns . What if I could let go of restless thoughts or negative feelings for a few moments and shift my focus to feel the support of the ground below me , the air that I breathe ? If I consciously connect to these resources , I can notice receiving support and can appreciate the comfort that the support is giving me . I am replenished not because there was more given , but because I was receptive to what was there .
In the practices of yoga and tai chi / qigong that I teach , nature is recognized as a tremendous resource that supports us all . The very ground that we stand on , the water we drink , and the air we breathe sustain us . There is a magnificence to the earth and we are an integral part of it .
In corpse pose we are truly alive . It is the stillness of the pose that allows us to connect with the inner nature of ourself , and in that connection , we discover a profound connection with all that is .
