LETTER FROM THE TEACHING PROFESSIONAL
STRESS FREE ON THE FIRST TEE
Salutations once again Eaglebrooke ! We made it through the heat of the summer , and with the Ryder Cup behind us , it ’ s now really time to get ready for those upcoming tournaments , and get your game , and your mind in the right place . This month we ’ re going to investigate some of the ways that we can start to play some better golf by simply using our minds . The mental game of golf is one that has brought grown men to their knees , but we ’ re going to dive into a few different ways of starting on the first tee to give ourselves the best opportunities to play great right from the start .
If you play competitive golf , or even recreationally , the first tee mindset can often set the pace for your round . We usually warm go through our warmup routines on the range and putting green , and then we are ready for battle standing on the tee box . We have all probably heard to keep a positive mindset , but that often does not always work . Have you ever tried to just take the positive thinking mindset , only to be let down when things don ’ t go according to the plan ? After the fact you are usually feeling more frustrated and let down . Although a positive mindset is much better than a negative one , if you only prepare yourself for positive outcomes , you will often be let down . The way to get past that would be to let your thoughts come and go . Research shows that mentally rehearsing before a round for poor outcome and a positive outcome is the most beneficial to not letting yourself down and getting to hard on yourself . This will start to ease the mind , and you will start to develop a strategy to rebound from a not-so-great start . I have personally used this technique the night before a round to plan how I will react if the round does not start off the way I would be planning for , and if a negative thought comes in , we simply just let it pass .
