LETTER FROM THE ASSISTANT GOLF PRO
One of the hardest parts of this crazy game is the MENTAL side . Which player are you ? Are you the player that gets mad or upset after a bad shot , or missing a short putt ? Does this action reflect on your game for the next few holes or maybe even the rest of the round ? Or … are you the player the just swings away and just enjoys the game with no real focus on score or outcome of what happens ? One of the things that both players have in common is they both wish their score was better .
For the player that just swings away , I would recommend taking a just a couple of seconds before each shot and make sure you have an objective . For instance , make sure your alignment is correct , check ball position and get balanced . Don ’ t worry , this process only takes a couple of seconds .
For the player that struggles maintaining their composure , first thing to remember is there are players getting paid millions of dollars to play that STILL hit bad shots ! Secondly , if you are not a scratch or a low single digit handicap player then frankly you need to practice more before you can get mad at a bad shot . One of my favorite sayings is from Masters winner Dustin Johnson . His quote was , “ you only have two shots in this game . A good shot or a bad shot !” So , don ’ t stress each shot ; try to relax and enjoy the game a little bit . Always remember , there are worse places you could be other than on the golf course .
For the New Year , become a NEW player !
Have a great year !
