LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The Agronomy Team has a lot of important tasks to complete in February . We will be working on weed prevention , tree trimming , landscape beds , and cart traffic issues . I am happy with the overall look and playability of the golf course , and I feel we have made great strides on the detail aspect . The 3-4 heavy frosts have slowed the bermudagrass to a crawl but this is when we are able to get a handle on the little things that bring the professional look that I want to achieve .
In late January , we were able to get several of the oak trees trimmed on holes 1,9,10,11,17,18 . The outside company that was chosen did a great job of not only trimming the trees , but respecting the golf course with minimal damage . This is something that has probably not been done professionally in several years if ever . This should not only make an impact on the overall appearance but with turf growth and health . We will continue to chip away at other smaller areas in house with the maintenance crew lifting smaller trees and cleaning the landscape beds on the course . We will also trim the crape myrtles back on the course . Last year we trimmed some of the larger crape myrtles aggressively . This year we will trim them 4-6 inches above last years cut . This will help us keep them manageable and in a healthy tree shape .
Weed prevention for this year begins NOW . Toward the end of the month , we will apply a fertilizer coated with Ronstar . This is a pre-emergent herbicide that prevents the growth of a broad spectrum of weeds without hurting the growth of the bermudagrass . We will apply this with a spreader wall to wall on the course . This also helps with a quicker spring green up and recovery from cart and foot traffic all winter long .
Please continue to be mindful of where you drive golf carts sticking to the rules and signage . Some repairs will be made to main exit areas on holes 5,7,10,11,16 . This helps to consolidate the traffic to a smaller area and allows us to keep the surrounding turf at a higher quality . I hope everyone is enjoying the golf course and with a little help from everyone following the traffic rules , we will continue to improve and grow .
