LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Happy Holidays everyone ! The golf course is shaping up nicely going into the colder weather . We have been working hard on some much-needed detail on the golf course . Details such as : edging cart paths , edging bunkers , cleaning drains , and plant beds , are the things that present a more professional look that we strive to have . The cooler temperatures have slowed the bermuda grass down allowing us to complete some of these tasks that were long overdue .
The unusual weather this year has continued into the winter season . It has been feast or famine with the rainfall all year long . We have had stretches of 4-6 weeks without any rain , all the way to receiving 6 inches in one night ! It has made it more challenging . We took steps to protect the greens from sodium building up in the soil from so much effluent water . The reclaimed water is purified , however the process leaves a higher sodium content in the water . As we irrigate , the sodium builds up in the soil and we must apply granular gypsum to flush the salt through and allow the soil to hold more beneficial elements . Natural rainfall helps flush the soil , but when they are few and far between , we must help the process . I am happy with the health of the greens . Sometimes 28-year-old greens can react in funny ways to certain processes . The fertilizer and maintenance program that we are using is definitely keeping them in good shape .
It has been a tough year both personally and professionally . I have met and worked with a lot of amazing people that have helped me through it . I can ’ t “ Thank You ” all enough . I want to wish the Eaglebrooke staff and our members a safe and happy holiday season !
