THE INGREDIENTS FOR “ MAKING THE PUTT PIE ”
Putting is one of the best ways to help improve your score and have more fun ! The best part of putting most anyone can be a good putter ! Let ’ s face it , 3 putts are score killers , so with a couple simple you can make more putts ! In the next 3 months of members newsletters we ’ ll cover the secret ingredients for making more putts in a series called making the putt pie .
In this plan we will cover the three ingredients in what I call “ Make The Putt Pie .” The ingredients are a fundamentally sound setup , understanding direction , and distance control . When you improve in these areas the ball will be holed out more often , and scores will drop !
THE FIRST INGREDIENT : THE SETUP
Setup Drill # 1 : Learn to Setup the Ball Properly … Without A putter !!
1 . As is with many other aspects of golf , a well-balanced athletic position is key to isn ’ t movements and centered strikes .
2 . Start with the feet , stance width . Too wide of a stance your arms fight each other . A stance that has heels within your hips will be stable and comfortable .
3 . Set up a putting mirror to practice getting into a solid setup position , and with the mirror you can get feedback seeing the eyes being over the ball or slightly behind the ball for more arcing stroke . No one is a good putter of the ball with eyes past the ball at set .
4 . Depending on body type some people may be more upright and taller ( Web Simpson ) and some more traditional looking , ( Tiger Woods ) while some may feel like Michelle Wie , assure the student that when eyes are over ball good putts will follow !
5 . Get in a habit of making every putt feel the exact same in process , a short putt , or a long lag putt . A solid setup and routine will lead to great results .
REMEMBER THE SETUP WILL BE AS UNIQUE AS INDIVIDUAL !
Tiger Woods , Webb Simpson , and Michelle Wie are all different in setup and have one common denominator , their all comfortable and confident setting up , and their eyes are positioned perfectly for their individual putting strokes !! Each one has a unique posture , and all have led the tour in the strokes gained with a putter .
