LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Spring showed up this month ! The weather has been favorable to the golf course and after our fertilizer with pre-emergent application , we were blessed with some good rains and warm temperatures to kick everything in gear . I am excited to get this growing season started .
We have already begun our vertical mowing and light topdressing program on greens to allow for a firmer putting surface . If we stay on this program weekly , it will allow us to gain healthier and faster green conditions through the summer months . It was a difficult winter with rainy , overcast conditions not allowing a favorable growth environment . Ball marks and plugs healed very slowly making it difficult to keep the greens rolling smooth . I would like to really push some new growth this month to set us up for a great summer .
The maintenance staff will be working on a few more detailed aspects this month . We were able to get the cart paths edged and some new plant beds installed at the end of March . We will keep this going into April with some sod work around cart path edges , tee walk ups , and bunker faces . I am working on filling in some of the weak turf areas from the heavy winter traffic , so PLEASE be mindful of these marked areas and keep traffic off them until the turf fully takes . This is common this time of year , especially in an “ El Nino ” year and our damage was very limited compared to most .
The maintenance staff would like to thank our membership for all the nice and reassuring comments that they have received . I am lucky to have a crew that shows up to work every day to make Eaglebrooke a better place . We have been able to keep the maintenance staff consistent with the same employees for the past year . This is something we have struggled with in years past and I really feel we have turned the corner with some great people . I am lucky to have them !
