Christmas Shopping by Kaelyn Dols
It ’ s the beginning of December and my nose turns red I lock my car , taking a long inhale The crisp air makes its way through my body My keys jingle together with every step My brain carries the weight of contrasting emotions . Then there ’ s the click of my card as it hits the machine The beep and echo through the store as it ’ s accepted At that moment , two things run through my brain : " Yay ! my card went through !" And " Damn ... my card went through ." I receive my bags and do the walk of shame , The mix of a wobble and telling myself You ’ re almost there . My keys clunk Together as I hurry back to my car , The bags getting heavier , the lingering baggage Of regret the heaviest of all .
