Like the rest of the new Zeiss Conquest V6 line up , the 3-18 × 50 models feature the FL or fluorite crystal objective lens . Thanks to the fluorite crystal ’ s special property of eliminating chromatic aberration ( color fringing ), the Zeiss optic remains sharp and has good contrast from 3x all the way 18x . While it ’ s not really designed for low-light hunting like the top-of-the-line Zeiss Victory V8 series , the new Zeiss Conquest V6 is very bright and I had no problem picking up targets in the shadows of the hilly FTW Ranch backgrounds .
Here you see the ballistic turrets on the top and right side of the Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18 × 50 along with the parallax adjustment turret on the left . The top turret offers three rotations for elevation with indicator markings for each rotation . The adjustment is 1 / 4 MOA per click . Unlike the smaller 1-6x24mm model , the two bigger 3-18 × 50 and the 5-30 × 50 models don ’ t have illumination yet . Although , I would guess Zeiss is probably working hard on additional models in the Conquest V6 series .
erything .
Just like the 1-6 × 24 model that I covered earlier , the 3-18 × 50 also has a very generous eye-box through out the magnification range . The ocular eye piece is in a large 40mm size , and it has a nice rubberized ring at the end . The zoom ring is very smooth turning and the magnification values are all evenly spaced with half marks in between . Being a 2nd focal plane scope , the hold-over and ranging functions on the reticle only work at the maximum 18x magnification .
Shooting at 22-inch steel disc targets from 1500 yards away . The three targets are at the top of the ridge and in front of a small berm . Using the Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18 × 50 , I had no problem seeing those clearly even at nearly a mile away .
