Start Small , Start Now !
MARC : Oh , completely . How about the fact that we were in Sarasota , Florida , we know we need to get to Destin . You look up online and see this YouTube video of Devil ’ s Den Prehistoric Spring . We got that ’ s the coolest thing ever . So we leave Sarasota . We put Devil ’ s Den Prehistoric Spring in the Google maps and we drive there . We show up at four o ’ clock at night , thinking that we ’ re going to go into the den . We ’ re going to swim around for a half hour , get back in the car and make our way to Tallahassee . We pull up and there ’ s an RV park . People are like , yeah , just go in there . It ’ s really great .
The RV park is $ 22 a night with full hookups . We booked there and then we spent the entire next day in Devil ’ s Den . We do not leave Devil ’ s Den until the next day at 3:00 PM . Then make our way to Destin . There ’ s another example of just letting the destinations unfold and just letting it happen . Those have to be the biggest “ aha ’ s .” I mean , there were the big destinations , like New York and Washington DC , and those neat . I would even say those were even better by RV because we got to go home to our RV , Ginger , which we really consider home .
But we get to have that feeling of being in your own truck in another city , drive home and make dinner and go to bed . That takes the fatigue out of what we ’ re doing if we tried to attempt this through VRBO staying with friend ’ s tent camping .
TRISH : Well case in point when we went to New York , because we wanted to be downtown in Manhattan . I wanted to ride the subway . I wanted to be part of the whole thing , and by the way , we were asked directions , like three times . We were considered locals there ! Towards the end . We really knew our way around . Maybe because we didn ’ t have a Statue of Liberty hat on . I don ’ t know .
We stayed at a VRBO in Manhattan . I have to say by the end I was ready for Ginger again . Because you have your own bed , your own food . You don ’ t get fatigued by just getting nickeled and dimed around town and everything else . RVing has completely changed the way we ’ ll travel for the rest of our lives .
MARC : Oh , there ’ s no question . I ’ m an RVer for life advocate .
TRISH : Obviously I get it because I ’ ve lived it with you , but I love talking about it because from the time you have an idea to the time you make it happen , there ’ s all kinds of stuff that ’ s going to go on , but really it ’ s going to be talking to yourself . Yes . You can make it through this . Yes . You can make this change and continue to say ‘ yes ’ to the dream . Then the highs and the crazy stuff that happens in between is all stuff that you ’ re going to remember for a lifetime . No matter if it ’ s a flat tire on the side of the road or seeing New York up and personal , it ’ s just going to be fantastic .
So , next I want to go into what I ’ m calling , “ The Inside Scoop .”
I would love to have a big brother or big sister tell me , “ Hey , you ’ re going to want to do this . Stay away from that . Hey , what about this ?” Let ’ s dive in and think about , what did you think about when you were going through the motions and making it happen ?
MARC : We didn ’ t know anything when we started down the RV path . I mean , we knew nothing and now , I wouldn ’ t we know everything , but we have a really good idea of how RVing works ; what works well and what doesn ’ t work well . Because we wanted to make this happen quickly ; and we didn ’ t know if we were gonna like it . We got , I think the smallest travel trailer we could possibly get that was going to be acceptable for the five of us to live in for six months . But also , the cheapest that we could spend , because we had no idea if we were going to like it . We didn ’ t know if we were going to like going on that first
