Start Small , Start Now !
TRISH : This is where even the librarians came in and they were thinking , are you sure you want to give all these to us ?
MARC : It went from 200 books to 100 books in just round numbers . We thought , these are the books that we would never want to part with . A month before we left , we knew we still had way too much stuff to store . We started looking at all the stuff we had already decided to keep , even that stuff had a completely new lens . Now we ’ re starting to say if we ’ re not ever going to read it again , it needs to go . Those hundred books probably came down to like 25 . That metaphor was applied to everything in the house and then more truckloads to Goodwill and whatnot . Amazing the stuff that we had in our garage and our cabinets and our drawers , furniture we ’ d never liked . This was the opportunity to get rid of it .
TRISH : But when you realize you ’ re going to go start in on a new endeavor you realize you have to reestablish who I am , what I do . I ’ m in a new community . You don ’ t get the easy , show up with a warm room of your friends who have that history with . For me , it was a little deeper . I was thinking , wait a minute . You ’ re not giving my surfboard away . It ’ s like , well , what are you committed to ? Are you committed to doing this new thing that we see as a new lifestyle ? Or are you committed to what we used to do ?
MARC : It ’ s amazing . There are two things that come to mind when you say that . We were selling what was once a dream , that ’ s really crazy . We were big boaters and we love water skiing , wakeboarding , wake surfing , and hosting on the boat . Ten years ago , the boat would have been the wildest dream ever . So to sell those things , was a
really weird feeling like I ’ m getting rid of something that ’ s still important to me , but it ’ s not as important as what we ’ re going to do and what we ’ re going to do , we don ’ t even know if we like it . That whole thing was crazy and you ’ re right . If it wasn ’ t for having the courage to know that this is what we ’ re going to do , we wouldn ’ t have done it , because it was hard . It was really hard .
TRISH : Well , okay . I think that was so important . I ’ m glad we kind of went down that rabbit hole because change isn ’ t easy and you just have to really remind yourself , what are you committed to ? What ’ s your

next step and how are you getting closer to your ultimate goal ? We ’ ve talked about the crazy evolution , like the timeline is so important . It ’ s so important from when you get an idea to when you actually act on the idea and then how it all falls into place . Some of that takes a little courage . Some of that is scary and some of that is super exciting .
Let ’ s take a minute to just talk about some of the crazy thinking about I can ’ t believe we ’ ve gotten ourselves into this . What ’ s something you think was crazy ?
MARC : Zion National Park . It was our second night and I got an email from a client that said it didn ’ t make sense to continue . I agreed with him even though he ’ s still a client now . This goes all the way back to May . Now we ’ re months later and we ’ re still working together . But nonetheless , I got that email while we were in Zion . It ’ s day three and I ’ ve already lost a client . I knew another one was scheduled to leave that month . It was natural attrition and I ’ m thinking , what ’ s up and I ’ m in Zion !
