Part of the fun of living somewhere is finding the unique attractions , different and special places , hidden gems , and great things to eat or see or do .

The Enid area is blessed with many such “ unique ” features . Two issues ago , we profiled several such places in the 10 Reasons to Love Enid . In this magazine , we add to that list with places to go , see and experience within a short distance from Enid . ( We ’ ll even give you directions !)

A great example is the Ames Astrobleme Museum . Did you know the whole town exists in a crater ? Yes , things from outer space have created what we now enjoy in Northwest Oklahoma !

Check out the Alabaster Caverns . That ’ s an explorer ’ s paradise . Be sure to take friends .

If you ’ re willing to make it a day trip , the Twister Museum in Wakita and the Sod House Museum near Cleo Springs are attractions to check out

Ȯr , if you ’ ve already checked those attractions off your list , just put on your walking shoes or , better yet , join Micah Stone and one of the local groups of cyclists .

Just walking or riding or driving around Enid , you ’ ll find an abundance of public art . The murals are amazing , and art creator Kelly Tompkins loves to be a guide and tell you the back story . And for a more detailed look at the public murals and art , the Enid News & Eagle will be updating its Enid Public Art Guide later this spring .

I love baseball – hey , that ’ s another great activity to get out and enjoy . I also love goofy quotes by a baseball classic , Yogi Berra . One such quote is something like : “ You can observe a lot just by looking .”

So , get out and look . Better yet , get out and do , participate , enjoy , learn and have fun with the unique attractions in and around Etown .
