Micah Stone has never filled out a job application . For him , there has only been one world and one job — bicycles .
Since he was a young teenager , Micah ’ s life has revolved around bicycles . What began as a hobby quickly transformed into a lifelong passion and career .
Micah ’ s journey into the world of bicycles started in his youth . Growing up in Enid , he went to work in the bicycle shop owned by Jim and Charlotte Wycoff . After high school , the Wycoffs bought another bicycle business and combined the two shops .
“ They asked me to stay and continue working for them , and I did for 22 years ,” he said .
He bought the business from the Wycoffs in 2000 .
In 2004 , Micah and his wife , Jennifer , moved The Bike Shop to its current location at 202 W . Randolph in downtown Enid .
At The Bike Shop , Micah ’ s commitment to the cycling community goes beyond selling bikes ; it ’ s about fostering a love for the sport . Hosting group rides several times a week , Micah ensures there ’ s something for everyone , from seasoned cyclists tackling longer
routes to beginners finding their pace .
One notable event on Micah ’ s calendar is the recently held Mid-South Gravel Race , a premier gravel race in Stillwater drawing thousands of participants annually . But Micah ’ s dedication extends beyond organized events ; he bikes to work every day , rain or shine , embodying the healthy lifestyle he advocates .
Over the years , as technology has advanced , so did the bikes , offering lighter and more efficient options for cyclists of all levels . The rise of electric bicycles has been a game-changer by making cycling more accessible to a wider demographic , he said .
“ It ’ s gotten people out that
wouldn ’ t ride normally ,” he said . “( Electric bicycles ) are keeping people from aging out of cycling .”
For Micah , it ’ s not just about the sales , but about getting people out and active , regardless of age or fitness level .
Despite the challenges of weather and road conditions , Micah stresses the importance of consistency and safety in cycling . He said Enid has cyclist-friendly environment and scenic routes , and he encourages riders to know their surroundings and ride defensively .
In addition to road cycling , Enid boasts mountain bike trails , thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers like Jesse Pierce and Bryan Skaggs . Micah
himself has contributed to trail maintenance , recognizing the importance of community support in nurturing Enid ’ s cycling culture .
After decades spent in the industry , Micah attributes the shop ’ s success to his wife ’ s meticulous showroom upkeep and the loyalty of their customers . Brands like Trek , Specialized , and Haro adorn their showroom floor , alongside an impressive collection of Oakley sunglasses and cycling accessories .
For Micah , The Bike Shop isn ’ t just a business ; it ’ s a lifelong calling . As he continues to pedal through life , his passion for cycling remains steadfast , inspiring Enid ’ s community to embrace the joy of two wheels .
