A beautiful life

All in the family

For many of us , family is the driving force behind much of what we do . The special moments of our lives are spent with family . We turn to our family in difficult times . We work hard to provide for our families and enjoy time together in play and recreation . Many families such as Greenbrier Village founding owners Herman and Gail Hackett also build a family business and work together to not only make a living but also to minister to the needs of others and build a lasting legacy in their communities .
Throughout the Greenbrier legacy , the “ family ” has expanded to include multiple generations of involvement for many employees and has become an ongoing part of their own family identities .
Carmen Fore , director of Nursing at The Homes of Greenbrier , has been part of the Greenbrier family for 15 years . When she started there her children Tanner and
Jeanice Manning with Jocelyn and Jasmine .
Shelbi were in grade school . Once they became older and could drive , she gave them an ultimatum .
“ I told them that they could either find a job or I ’ d find one for them ,” she said . “ They both started out working in Dining Services .”
They each worked off and on through the years in different areas of campus . Now adults , Shelbi works as a CMA ( certified medication aide ) and Tanner is on the sales team and assists in the nursing center and assisted living while he completes his college degree .
Carmen says that having her children working with her at Greenbrier was a good fit for her family .
“ We have a very close family . We encourage each other and take care of each other at work and away from work . We also have a strong appreciation for the traditions and history of the older folks we work with . It ’ s such an honor for us to be part of their lives .”
Carmen ’ s husband Shawn is also a familiar face at Greenbrier , visiting with residents ( he especially enjoys hearing about veterans ’ experiences ) and volunteering with projects and special events .
“ Greenbrier staff and residents have become an extension of our family ,” Carmen says .
Amber Walter has worn many hats during her 16-year career at Greenbrier . Her oldest son William
