C HONORED FOR EXCELLENCE IN FINANCIAL REPORTING ITY The City of Laguna Niguel has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its FY 2013/14 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR.) “This is the sixteenth straight year the City has earned this prestigious award thanks in no small part to the hard work and dedication of Finance Director Steve Erlandson and his staff,” said Mayor Laurie Davies. “The award is a significant accomplishment for City officials and staff, and demonstrates the City’s commitment to making accurate and complete financial information available to the public" said Davies. The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was presented to Director Erlandson as the primary person responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. The CAFR was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C. D SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER THIS HOLIDAY SEASON RIVE That’s the message being conveyed by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign period which runs from December 18th to January 3rd. During this time period, police, sheriff and the CHP will be conducting DUI checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols throughout the region in an effort to reduce the amount of deaths and serious injury caused by impaired drivers. This evening, December 18, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the Orange County Sheriff’s Department DUI Taskforce will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in Laguna Niguel. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department DUI Taskforce reminds everyone to follow these simple tips to stay safe:     Plan a safe way to get home before you attend the party. Alcohol impairs judgment, as well as reaction time. If you’re impaired you’re more likely to choose to drive drunk. Designate a sober driver; take public transportation, a car service, or a call a sober friend of family member to get home. Walking while impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving.
