Romania shares the International Invention Salon prize with Switzerland

An invention made by a group of Romanian scientists and bought by a Swiss company three months before has won the grand prize at the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva 2014. The system is called IREWIND, which is a Swiss Tech start-up from EPFL, Lausanne backed up by a development team in Romania and several strategic partnerships with global hardware manufacturers. IREWIND technology was developed in a research center set up by the Romanian who took the grand prize at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions twice, Mircea Tudor.

The IREWIND system streams video from multiple cameras simultaneously, providing users personal cool movies, fully edited via cloud. The latest innovation, called IREWIND ”On Air Camera”, can now stream personal movies directly to a smartphone, without previous transfer into the cloud.

IREWIND has now technically and commercially validated the technology on ski, running and cycling events, with partners such as Orange Telecom, Red Bull, Skoda and Axis Communications, serving sport events individual movies to thousands of participants, generating tens of thousands of downloads and social network shares.

IREWIND automatically records, edits and distributes personalized sports movies, providing instant gratification by delivering LIVE edited videos to the mobile phone, ready for private viewing or sharing on social networks. The solution works with almost any sport, like for example ski, snowboard, tennis, karting, soccer, running, cycling, golf, mini-football, skating.

IREWIND combines a network of smart cameras with individual user tracking technology (based on GPS, RFID or Bluetooth Beacon) and delivers HD movies on any mobile or other screen. Cameras can be mounted everywhere. The user footage is streamed automatically via a wireless or fixed connection to the IREWIND server where editing is done. But that’s not all, optional video & sound effects are available to get you a very cool movie. You can enjoy it, share it or edit further using the IREWIND app.

Buying such technologies for a single ski slope costs, on average of 2 to 3 million euros, said Mircea Tudor.
