Internet of Things ( IoT ) identifies all kinds of electronic devices ( excluding traditional computers ) connected to the internet to collect , analyse and transmit information or respond to remote commands . IoT has been an enabler for many different applications and also revolutionised healthcare systems . Internet of Medical Things ( IoMT ) refers to the ecosystem of advanced digital devices and systems which can collect , transfer and analyse data regarding a patient ’ s healthcare condition . This presentation started outlining the benefits of the introduction of smart devices ( IoT devices ) in the healthcare system . Then , it provided insight into the challenges the IoMT ecosystem has to encounter as the IoMT devices can introduce risks that may put patient ’ s lives in danger . A number of vulnerable devices which are affected by cyber security flaws was mentioned , that if they are not handled properly , may put patient ’ s lives in danger . The presentation concluded with a number of recommendations during the stages of procurement , deployment and management of the IoMT devices that will help healthcare institutions to minimize the risk the IoMT devices are exposed to and subsequently protect and improve patients ’ medical experience .
