E-BOOK: Migration Biographies - Europe on the move December 2020 | Page 121

The IISS “ Alpi-Montale ” organized a Conference “ Europe on the Move ” dealing with Migration flows to and from Italy . Starting from an important event happened in 1991 : the docking of the Vlora ship in the port of Bari , when thousands of Albanian people arrived in Italy escaping from their country , they have faced the “ New Migrations ” coming from North Africa and what Italians are doing to receive and admitting them . The conference was animated by great political and public people like the two mayors of Rutigliano and Noicattaro , but above all by the Albanian Consul who has stressed the strong relationship existing between Apulia and Albania , how Albanians are perfectly integrated in Italy .
Impressive has also been the visit to Apulian Regional Palace where Mr Occhiofino dealt with the “ Three year plan of the Migration Policies ” focusing on seasonal work of immigrants , stressing how Apulian government is fighting against the exploitation of these people working many hours in farms but underpaid .
