E-BOOK: Migration Biographies - Europe on the move December 2020 | Page 108

EPILOGUE
After having worked for two years , we came to the conclusion that the subject of migration will never be obsolete .
We realized that the reasons for migration are the same today as they were in the past . People are looking for better living conditions , as well as they try to escape from war , political or religious persecution or hunger and poverty .
Migration isn ’ t only a challenge for the migrants , but also for the society that integrates them .
But for sure it can be said that because of migration , the European society experiences an enlargement of the way of living and thinking , since immigrants enrich the culture of the host countries and give local people an opportunity to come in contact with different opinions , lifestyles and habits .
It is a process of coexistence that favors both sides , as both through their interactions deepen the feelings of respect for the other people and their different cultural backgrounds .
The students benefitted not only from the mobilities that offered far more than any touristic trip , they were also able to share common interest and exchange best practice by dealing with the topic .
All the participants feel lucky and thankful to be part of the dynamic process towards a European future without barriers .
The Erasmus program was a tool to talk about social matters and values that concerned them all , develop critical thinking and motivate them to react in everyday social challenges , especially those dealing with integrating into society .
Among them , some friendships developed which hopefully will last for a long time .
Both teachers and students were able to increase their knowledge and experience , their language and communication skills , feel a stronger sense of European identity and realized that the European nations have more similarities than differences .
We wish that more students can profit from the Erasmus programme in the future .
