PROLOGUE

Living in a country other than the one in which you were born , is worldwide a normality and characterizes the migration of the 20th and 21st centuries . This project will listen to the voice of people with migration biographies all across Europe , e . g . looking at the work migration , especially the youth ' s migration particularly from Southern to Northern or Middle Europe since the financial crisis is of special interest , as well as the current influx of refugees . We concentrate on interviews , diaries or pieces of literature , autobiographies or other self-reflecting documents and study and document migration biographies from all over Europe .
This e-book is the product of two years of cooperation among four partner schools made possible by the Erasmus Funding of the European Union .
All this work was produced during classes , extra classes in the afternoon and on weekends , through communication and common efforts and by exchanging ideas and good practices we were all motivated by each other .
During the meetings of the mobilities we worked together in workshops and shared our work progress especially by presentations so we could make additions and corrections .
All students had the chance to interact , to exchange and to get to know each other ’ s culture , habits and personal stories . Many of them are migrants themselves or descendants of migrants .
In each country local politicians accepted willingly our invitations to inform and exchange ideas with the participants .
This outcome is fascinating for all who contributed to the various subjects . The German students wrote a thesis setting the focus on migrants to Germany . For one year they chose a person ’ s biography , did some research and wrote a scientific work . In some cases they wrote down a family member ’ s story .
The Portuguese students made interviews and wrote biographies . Because of the colonies , the Portuguese have a long history of emigrating and immigrating , which gave them the possibility to draw from a rich variety of sources .
The Italians were creative in drawing comic strips , collected life testimonies . They especially focused the Albanian community and their integration . The project had the chance to get in touch with many different members of the community who shared their experiences .
The Greek talked to migrants about their new lives and used many digital tools to create films to present the interviews in various ways . Also the Greeks experienced emigration as well as immigration .
