Meal update
!
My
name
is
Laura
Schmidt,
and
I
coordinate
the
meals
at
the
Alliance
Catholic
Worker
for
the
past
year.
This
has
caused
me
to
reflect
on
our
hospitality
the
past
couple
of
months.
We
started
serving
meals
in
March
2013
with
a
few
small
meals
on
a
Sunday
aFernoon.
We
are
now
providing
a
Monday
meal
in
addiGon.
We
hope
to
extend
to
another
weekday
meal
and
add
a
dishwashing
crew.
We
now
have
seven
to
eight
consistent
cooks
who
share
their
culinary
giFs
with
the
people
we
serve.
I
am
just
so
thankful
to
all
those
who
have
said
yes
to
feeding
our
neighbors.
They
never
fail
each
and
every
month
to
supply
nutriGous,
homemade
meals.
Thank
you
all!
You
are
doing
your
part
to
make
this
world
a
beMer
place.
!
As
Dorothy
Day
has
said,
hospitality
is
more
than
about
the
food.
It
is
about
the
personalism
that
we
extend
to
all
who
walk
through
our
doors.
I
have
witnessed
those
who
walk
in
upset
or
down
leaving
happy,
well
fed,
and
smiling.
I
have
witnessed
-‐
some
of
our
neighbors
who
have
their
own
troubles-‐
pick
up
groceries
for
others
who
do
not
own
a
car.
Is
having
a
meal
a
cure
all
from
the
daily
stresses
of
life
by
those
aMending?
Of
course
not,
but
all
who
have
aMended
have
shared
something
that
is
deeper
than
food.
They
are
experiencing
Christ
working
through
us,
and
have
seen
the
joy
that
God
has
given
us
in
helping
Him
do
His
work.
There
is
something
to
look
forward
to
that
goes
beyond
having
material
needs:
the
conversaGons
with
others,
the
prayer,
the
celebraGon
of
birthdays,
a
dessert
aFer
dinner
with
coffee,
or
warmth
