Gururaj P, a Master graduate in Science with 12+
years of experience is currently working with DXC
Technology (HPE) - the merged unit of erstwhile

is Security Analytics and Operation Analytics.
DYNAMISM(E) caught hold of him and attempted
to gain some insights. Excerpts below:
DYNAMISM(E): Businesses around the
globe today wanting data science for
excelling in their business. What aspects
of data science is the businesses getting
attracted to? What value can data science
add to businesses?
Gururaj: Today many companies want to know
where they stay stand in the global market
and what is future for them. As we all know, in
today’s world we have infrastructure to store
and process the data. Machine Learning and
R- Programming along with Python exposure is
what businesses are getting attracted. These
help them to analyse and gain insights into their
business. Operation analytics is one area, which
is focused more in most of the industries and
can add value to the business.
DYNAMISM(E): In simple words, if a novice
were to understand data science, how
would you put it?
Gururaj: Data science is a data-driven science
and also it is an interdisciplinary subject about
scientific methods, processes and systems
to extract knowledge or insights from data
where it is in various forms, either structured or

unstructured. Even your Google Search is treated
as a Data, Facebook posts are treated as Data
and comments that you post for the products
you purchased or reviewed on E-commerce
websites like Flipkart and Amazon are treated as
a data.
Today we need to simplify the word Big Data as
we know there are many tools which can help you
to understand the data visualization and also it
will show the results where you can take the
decisions. As a data scientist, we need to make
sure that we have best of best infrastructure
in terms of Data Analytics Tool and resources
to train the younger generations in the area of
Data Sciences
DYNAMISM(E): Can you give us some
examples – hypothetical and real life –
to better understand the importance of
data science?
Gururaj: The best examples are OLA and UBER
transport services they collect location data,
pickup and drop data and also number of trips
you book. These aggregators based take decision
based on the trips that you have taken and also
offers that they will provide you sometimes
surprise special offer are given if you have not
logged in for longer time and this way they can
attract the customers and keep their business
running for longer time . One more example is
recommender if you have buyed any product
recently in amazon or flipkart you will be always
recommended to buy similar products like if you
try to buy Shaving Cream the recommender
suggest you to buy Shaving Brush or Blade of
best price and quality and also sometimes you
might group discounts.
