Interview with a Data Analyst Mr. GURURAJ P, Sr. Security Engineer & Data Analyst DXC Technology (HPE) Bangalore Gururaj P, a Master graduate in Science with 12+ years of experience is currently working with DXC Technology (HPE) - the merged unit of erstwhile HP & CSC Technology. His area of specialisation is Security Analytics and Operation Analytics. DYNAMISM(E) caught hold of him and attempted to gain some insights. Excerpts below: DYNAMISM(E):  Businesses around the globe today wanting data science for excelling in their business. What aspects of data science is the businesses getting attracted to? What value can data science add to businesses? Gururaj: Today many companies want to know where they stay stand in the global market and what is future for them. As we all know, in today’s world we have infrastructure to store and process the data. Machine Learning and R- Programming along with Python exposure is what businesses are getting attracted. These help them to analyse and gain insights into their business. Operation analytics is one area, which is focused more in most of the industries and can add value to the business. DYNAMISM(E):  In simple words, if a novice were to understand data science, how would you put it? Gururaj: Data science is a data-driven science and also it is an interdisciplinary subject about scientific methods, processes and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data where it is in various forms, either structured or #InterView unstructured. Even your Google Search is treated as a Data, Facebook posts are treated as Data and comments that you post for the products you purchased or reviewed on E-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon are treated as a data. Today we need to simplify the word Big Data as we know there are many tools which can help you to understand the data visualization and also it will show the results where you can take the decisions. As a data scientist, we need to make sure that we have best of best infrastructure in terms of Data Analytics Tool and resources to train the younger generations in the area of Data Sciences DYNAMISM(E):   Can you give us some examples – hypothetical and real life – to better understand the importance of data science? Gururaj: The best examples are OLA and UBER transport services they collect location data, pickup and drop data and also number of trips you book. These aggregators based take decision based on the trips that you have taken and also offers that they will provide you sometimes surprise special offer  are given if you have not logged in for longer time and this way they can attract the customers and keep their business running for longer time . One more example is recommender if you have buyed any product recently in amazon or flipkart you will be always recommended to buy similar products like if you try to buy Shaving Cream the recommender suggest you to buy Shaving Brush or Blade of best price and quality and also sometimes you might group discounts.
