makers working with you. Understanding
who those influencers are, and the processes
which are involved, in setting and enforcing
policy is critical to our mission of diversity.
President Barack Obama has explained it
this way, “There is probably a perverse pride
in my administration . . . that we were going
to do the right thing, even if short-term it
was unpopular. And I think anybody who’s
occupied this office has to remember that
success is determined by an intersection in
policy and politics and that you can’t be
neglecting of marketing, and P.R., and public
opinion.”
“Policy” is defined as a principle of action
adopted or proposed by a government, party,
business, or individual. To expand, policy
is the implementation framework under
which governmental and non-governmental
organizations, corporations, and businesses,
alike, work to solve economic, social, and
political or business issues. Policy defines the
roles and responsibilities of contributors in a
system to include the designation, allocation,
and delivery of resources to resolve issues.
This is significant because its consequences
proliferate through the fabric of our society,
either directly or indirectly. Policies encourage
certain behavior and equally encourage, as
well as discourage, particular actions.
Drug Policy Alliance and the Trevon Martin
Foundation. Skolnik has also worked on a
number legislative actions aimed at affecting
government policies. We are excited to share
what he has to say with DyNAMC readers.
In this issue focused on “Policy,” we feature
Michael Skolnik as our cover story. Skolnik
is the President and Chief Editor of
GlobalGrind.com. A civil rights activist and
strong communicator, Skolnik has been center
stage providing influence and leadership in a
wide range of policies affecting our nation.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the
“Understanding who those
influencers are, and the processes
which are involved, in setting and
enforcing policy is critical to our
mission of diversity.”
