Hopes and Dreams…

Growing up on a family farm in North Georgia, many summer evenings
we would gather on the front porch after supper and Daddy would tell
stories about his adventures as a young man. He had many stories to tell
about all the places he had seen and the people he had met along the way.
We kids must have looked in amazement, because he would often stop
and point to the dirt road in front of the house and say, “Girls, that road
will take you anywhere in this world.”
As hard as it was to imagine at that time, indeed it did take me away from
that farm. And after chasing from one coast to the other for college and
careers, Don and I got a chance to buy our own little dream farm in this
holler in beautiful East Tennessee and promptly set out to populate it
with cattle , horses, sheep, goats, pigs, a llama, lots of poultry, and our
much beloved Great Pyrenees livestock guard dogs.
Life, as it does so often, took some twists and turns and we parted
company with livestock so we could tend to careers and aging family
members. When we were able to restock, we knew cattle and horses
were beyond us so we looked to goats. That’s when I lucked upon
Nigerian Dwarfs. In my wildest dreams I would have never guessed I
could be so content to have these little goats in lieu of the cattle which I
loved working with so much. But they have found a place on our
homestead and in our hearts!
Another thing I would have never guessed in my wildest dreams is
starting an online magazine, but here I am! I want to create a meeting
place where folks just starting to consider miniature goats as well as new
owners can find support – and where those who have experience can
share with others – so that we all can be as successful as possible in this
venture that binds us. We are a community of enthusiasts whose hopes
and dreams revolve around these little dairy goats and the blessings they
bring to our lives.

MINI magazine has been created especially for you!
