SUCCESS Disavé Espresso Equipment Suppliers had a fantastic worker in Chris, but his back condition meant he had to work shorter hours or the pain would just get too much. Enter DVJS. Through workplace modifications organized by DVJS - 5 height adjustable benches were installed to ensure Chris’ condition wasn’t aggravated. Now Chris is not only able to work longer hours, but other members of the staff are happier and find it easier to work to their potential as well. Workplace Modifications have not only allowed a great worker to do even more - but the entire culture and productivity of the workforce has changed for the better. David has a Diploma in Construction and was completing a degree before an accident changed his life, but that passion and drive to succeed never went away. A company like SL Insulation Pty Ltd wasn’t just doing the good work making your homes and workplaces more comfortable, they decided to do good work behind the scenes too - something we saw first hand when SL met David. Steve, the manager of SL Insulation immediately saw David’s potential and was keen to work with DVJS to provide not only the work/life balance that best suits David’s health, but also upgrade the workplace to suit. Mods such as a wheelchair ramp, a folding grabber to even a trackball mouse all mean a workplace that runs better than it did before - and that’s exactly what an upgrade is supposed to do. These are just two examples of workplace mods Matching a great employer with great staff may be our role, but it never stops making our day. Workplace Mods are just one of the many ways DVJS works with business and potential employees to ensure everyone does better. The Workplace Modifications Scheme reimburses employers and employment services providers for the costs involved in modifying the workplace or purchasing special or adaptive equipment for eligible employees with disability. It is also available to existing employees. All employers of people with disability are potentially eligible for reimbursement for the cost of workplace modifications. IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE, AN EMPLOYER MUST EMPLOY A PERSON WITH DISABILITY FOR AT LEAST EIGHT HOURS A WEEK IN A JOB THAT IS EXPECTED TO LAST FOR AT LEAST 13 WEEKS. IN ADDITION, THE EMPLOYEE WILL: Have an ongoing disability that has lasted, or is likely to last, for two years or more • Have a disability that results in a limitation, restriction or impairment affecting everyday activities and requiring a workrelated adjustment • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident • Be employed under a legal industrial arrangement that complies with the minimum standards established by federal, state or territory law STORIES PHILLIPE MICHAEL DINGLEY VILLAGE ADVENTURE GOLF EXCITING CAREER IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Stuart was looking for a little help keeping the amazing equipment at Dingley Village Adventure Golf in top condition, so we introduced Stuart to DVJS client Phillipe and together we’ve all hit an ace. Stuart feels Phillipe has not only become a valuable asset to the team, but someone the entire team can count on no matter the task - even when Bertha the Water Wheel plays up. So you can be sure staff like Phillipe will be working hard so your friends and family have a great time whenever you visit. Michael graduated with an IT degree 3 years ago having a distinction average. He is a very intelligent, genuine young man. It has taken him up until recently to commence employment in his chosen career field. By co-incidence he also obtained his driver’s licence. A great achievement for someone never prepared to give up despite so many disappointments. Michael regularly obtained job interviews but his biggest barrier was to convince prospective employers that he was the right person for the job. DVJS assisted Michael with interview preparation including mock interviews, developed his resume to a professional standard, drafted cover letters and had an open dialogue with his referees. While it was deflating for Michael to receive so many “no’s” he was constantly reminded that he only needed one “YES”! He now feels “on top of the world and can “hold his head up high” in social situations. He is a perfect example of determination and not giving up. Well done!
