These jobs included unskilled positions to apprenticeships and professional appointments. As shown by some success stories in this newsletter, our job seekers are diverse in their skill level, job capacity and work choice. Vacancies that we filled included but not limited to; Retail & Customer Service, Data entry/ IT, Call Centre Operators, Hair Dressing, Teaching, Security, Kitchen Hands, Console Operators, Landscaping, Animal Care, Aged Care and General Factory Hands. There were many companies that employed multiple DVJS job seekers this year EDMI Gas, Action Pack, Rapid Pack, Stamford Hotel, Anaconda, Victorian Clothing Exporters, Berwick Mazda, New World Honda, Biscay Greetings...many job seekers are now independent of DVJS forging sustainable careers with their employer. DVJS has been operating for over 23 years … having satisfied employers recruiting multiple people demonstrates we are getting it right! Many of our job seekers register with DVJS because they can’t compete for jobs in the open market or can’t maintain them without some form of support, sometimes both. DVJS relies very much on your community spirit by giving someone less fortunate an opportunity and your willingness to explore innovative employment options to make employing a person with a disability good for your business. One of the ways DVJS is innovative is we ‘create’ employment opportunities from asking you “what duties do you have that your staff hate doing?” We have created employment by building a job from the collection of duties that people generally hate doing – not only was it more productive for the employer by having a happier work force but their workers also appreciated their employer for giving someone a chance. An example of this was with a furniture manufacturer. Machinists were cutting timber and shavings were everywhere...the place looked a mess! Our consultant observed that there was significant downturn as machines were turned off to clean up. We created a cleaner/ gofer role where we had someone emptying bins, regular sweeping and getting coffee etc and production increased by 30%... more than met the cost of the created position that was being subsidized anyway! DVJS will carefully screen applicants to ensure they meet your needs and safety requirements as well as being part of your team. We will provide onsite training and support to help the new worker adjust to your work environment and meet production targets and a wage subsidy to offset some initial costs until they can ‘master’ their job. You may be looking at how your business can operate more efficiently in 2017...perhaps DVJS may be the solution? DVJS would like to thank all of you for your support throughout 2016 and look forward to working with you during 2017 and assisting you make your business a success. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and prosperous 2017. [email protected] TEL: 1300 385 738 FAX: 9793 6200 FACEBOOK: DVJSEMPLOYMENT
