Superintendent’s Scholars Celebrate
Academic Achievement
Duncanville ISD
Superintendent
Dr. Marc Smith
recognized 63
students and
their families
as part of the
newly-developed
Superintendent’s
Scholars Program.
The students
represent the top
40 percent in 8th,
9th and 10th grades based on two criteria: passing
the college readiness benchmark on the State of
Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
test and scores from the Preliminary SAT/National
Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT).
The district identified and recognized the top-
performing students to encourage them to take
advantage of the college preparatory classes and test
preparatory activities offered at Duncanville High
School.

“We want to become a college-going culture in this
district,” Dr. Smith said.
The ceremony, which was hosted at the HIlton
Garden Inn- Duncanville, included dinner and a
flute performance by Duncanville HIgh School band
students.
Dr. Smith said this initial class of Superintendent’s
Scholars is just the beginning. The program will
become an annual event with more students
recognized each year.
