Paula Cartmell , a Math teacher at Duncanville High School is the Made with Pride in Duncanville - Teacher of the month. Mrs. Cartmell has been a member of the DHS family for 36 years. She is a motivator who encourages her students to plan for the future. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Cartmell is also the National Honor Society sponsor where she encourages students to participate in community service. Senior Sharif Long, who nominated Mrs. Cartmell said, “For many of us, we are first-generation college students, and she has been a huge influence in helping us decide on our plans, receive financial aid and obtain scholarships.” Nelda Wadle , a Special Education Clerk, is the Made with Pride in Duncanville – Staff of the month. Nelda works in the Duncanville ISD Special Education Department and is always working to serve others. Members of the Duncanville ISD Special Education assessment team say they couldn’t function without her. Nelda always has a smile on her face and has a heart of gold. On any given day you will find her auditing a huge stack of folders to ensure compliance, which ultimately leads to the district helping to ensure our students’ success. Nelda’s experience and insight are invaluable to the assessment team. Senior Madison Cooper is the Made with Pride in Duncanville – Student of the month. Madison is in the top two-percent of her graduating class, she is a talented artist and also competes in SkillsUSA with her photography. Madison has served as a class officer in Student Council for four years and as scrapbook committee chair for two years. With her help, Student Council has continued to grow and transition from being heavily dominated by upperclassmen, to having a great representation in across all grade levels. Madison organized an after-school program at Bilhartz Elementary School to encourage healthy living through fun games, activities, dance and food. Madison has the characteristics you’d like to see in a young adult. She demonstrates caring, leadership and love to everyone she encounters. Page 19
