Made with Pride Honorees
Kathleen Franco , a second grade
bilingual teacher at Hyman Elementary School,
was selected as the March Made with Pride
in Duncanville Teacher of the Month. After
noticing low PTA participation, Ms. Franco
took it upon herself to mentor and support
the new PTA president. She is the voice of the
school at the PTA meetings and helps carry
out all of the amazing activities they plan.
Ms. Franco organized a pizza day, a father-
daughter dance, a mother-son dance, an online
fundraising campaign and was in charge of
rewarding the teachers with a week of meals
from the fundraiser. A dance-a-thon raised
more than $7,000 for the PTA. Ms. Franco
is tirelessly working for Hyman students and
improve parent-teacher partnerships.
Tiffany Waites , a nurse aide at
Hastings Elementary School, was selected as
the March Made with Pride in Duncanville
Staff of the Month. Ms. Waites goes above and
beyond the call of duty on a daily basis. She
builds relationships with all Hastings students
and makes them feel welcomed, loved and
nurtured. An administrator noted that she
saw Ms. Waites walking out with a bag full of
clothes and learned that she had been taking a
home a student’s soiled clothes to wash them
throughout the week. She has a giving spirit
and truly cares about our students.
Tristen Taylor , a seventh grader at
Byrd Middle School, was selected as the Made
with Pride in Duncanville Student of the
Month. Tristen is a student-athlete and played
on the 8th grade girls basketball A-team as
a starter and co-captain. Her determination,
hard work and leadership were invaluable this
season. Always leading by example, Tristen
is one of the hardest working athletes on and
off the court. Her work ethic transfers to the
classroom as she has maintained her status on
the A honor roll, balancing athletics with her
Pre-AP classes.
