warning in Stephens County , but Link had eyes on the storm before it ever crossed the county line .
With eyes on the tempest as it exited Lawton , Link and the team then warned their Stephens County followers the storm ’ s path would lead it to the northwestern part of Stephens County .
Sirens throughout the county then triggered .
In this case , Link aims to provide the calm during the storm by sending out factual information to their viewers and giving them every chance they can to prepare ahead of time . He also suggests having multiple sources for weather news updates and keeping tabs , having a plan in place and learning about storms .
“ I love the idea that if one person is safer after what we do , then we have done our job ,” Link said . “ The focus is giving information to the people .”
The people Link speaks of include much more than just those in Stephens County now . Since its inception , WeatherLink ’ s following has grown far outside of birthplace .
“ It is a blessing for Stephens County — and we have viewers from all over the area in Texas and Oklahoma ,” Link said . “ It continues to grow as we branch out and continue to track storms in the area outside of our local area .”
Members from all over the world are able to post and request possible weather events on the WeatherLink LLC Facebook page , which now boasts over 24,300 members after its launch in 2015 .
Despite full time jobs for all five members , Link said the group remains available , especially during peak storm seasons , like March through May and September and October .
With eyes to the skies , he assured if a storm is nearby , the WeatherLink team will activate and watch for the formation .
“ The idea is to give people not only a couple of minutes , a couple of hours , or a couple of days but the idea that we are going to be here ,” Link said . “ If a storm is going to threaten the area , whether it is Stephens County , Duncan , Southern Oklahoma or northern Texas , we will be here and warn people .”
