LIVE SIMULATIONS GIVE RED RIVER EMS STUDENTS HANDS-ON TRAUMA TREATMENT TRAINING

Lights flash . Sirens blare . Adrenaline rushes . The commotion of the specific emergency at hand sends responders bustling through an active scene on a mission to save a life . These are critical moments , both for Emergency Medical Services ( EMS ) working the scene and the patient in their hands .

These critical moments take hundreds of hours of training and drilling so emergency workers can respond quickly and accordingly to whatever situation arises while staying calm and collected , which is why students in the EMT program at Red River Technology Center ( RRTC ) take part in a yearly live simulation to test what they ’ ve learned , showcase their physical and mental skills and gain handson experience before they head into a real life emergency scene at the conclusion of their schooling .
According to Jeff Prater , EMS instructor for RRTC , the simulation comes after a full fall and spring semester . Courses for those in the program begin in the fall with
