local park once belonging to Halliburton will begin its new life this summer .
What once was the local Halliburton Recreation Park will now become the Duncan Sports Park & Activity Center as new local owners and managers take over the operations .
Called DPSAC by manager Nick Reed , the facility , purchased at the end of 2020 from Halliburton by Chris and Teri Billings , saw the beginning of the rehabilitation process begin in April 2021 when Reed was hired .
The park had seen no maintenance for a long period of time , Reed said , and said the process has been a long one , but they are almost ready to open it with some great amenities .
“ There was a lot of stuff like plumbing issues , lots of mowing , weed eating and spraying . The creek was backlogged and trashed with quite a bit of neglect and so we hired a crew and we went in there and got after it ,” Reed said . “ It is almost a full year later now and we are looking at hopefully a mid-April opening . I know it has been a long time coming and I know the community is kind of excited about it and we are glad for that . I think it will be a great thing for Duncan and kids will have something to do here in Duncan .”
One of the amenities that has been talked about is the old mini-golf course that is on site at the park . Reed said they are in the process of revamping it with a theme of visiting Duncan .
“ We went out and got local businesses that are pretty well staples of the community and each business bought and sponsored a hole ,” Reed said . “ They got to design their own and picked their carpet color and that sort of thing . It will portray a visit Duncan theme with our mini-golf course . All of the carpet should be here soon and we hope to finalize it in the next couple of weeks . It is a great thing to advertise local businesses .”
The course will include 19 holes , according to Reed . But that ’ s not the only area that has seen a face lift .
