DUNCAN ’ S NEW SUPERINTENDENT DR . CHANNA BYERLY WORKS IN HER OFFICE AT DUNCAN ’ S ADMINISTRATION BUILDING ON PLANNING SESSIONS FOR THE DISTRICT .
During this time , Byerly continued her studies at Cameron University where she obtained a Master of Science in educational leadership and administration in 2013 . While doing this , Byerly also stepped into an assistant principal position .
One year after that , in 2014 , Byerly began her term as the DPS chief financial officer of operations , which she still holds today nearly eight-and-a-halfyears later .
Her quest and thirst for knowledge didn ’ t end there . Byerly put the feather in her cap when she graduated from University of Oklahoma in 2019 with her PhD in educational administration , curriculum and supervision and the new designation of “ doctor ” in front of her name .
Byerly ’ s commitment to learning and growth positioned her to take the next step into an assistant superintendent title for DPS in August 2019 , which in turn left her in prime placement to stride into the top district official ’ s seat .
Now that she ’ s made it to destination Superintendent , it ’ s time for the work to begin .
TARGETING THE LOSS OF LEARNING
After going through the pandemic , Byerly said one of the district ’ s main goals revolves around putting a focus on the loss of learning in schools today and bringing students up to speed .
This will happen , Byerly said , by encouraging parent support and teacher-parent engagement , establishing instructional material needs and evaluating interventions
“ We ’ re really going back to those basics of the classroom and the teaching ,” Dr . Byerly said about recuperating from the pandemic .
With kids completely missing those nine weeks of school , Byerly said it ’ s crucial to take the extra time to make sure students are brought up-to-date to combat that loss of learning .
