Opal Wilson, a well known name in the Duncan and Stephens County community, joined the ranks of all things historical when an exhibit honoring her for her dedicated service to Hallibuton opened this year.
Wilson’ s Halliburton career spanned from 1953 through 2020. She was 18 when she first went to work as a billing clerk.
Wilson, now 91, said she loved her job and the people.
Stories circulated about Wilson starting her day at 4 a. m., as well as her quick 120 words per minute she produced on typewriter.
As a billing clerk, Wilson said she typed invoices and became a senior secretary.
After the move, Wilson worked at the field camp for the North America Group where she retired. Halliburton was Wilson’ s only job. Wilson’ s 67 years of secretarial life exhibit will become a permanent part of the Halliburton display once it’ s complete.
Director of Manufacturing at Halliburton Ryan Wilmes said it’ s an honor to recognize Wilson’ s years at Halliburton.
“ It’ s extraordinary,” he said.“ Certainly reflects character, work ethic— and certainly lasting impact on the organization.”
With 67 years of service, Wilmes said Wilson’ s impact continues to inspire her colleges, as well as many new generations.
As the company continues to evolve, Wilmes said Wilson’ s career reminds the company of adaptability, purpose and responsibility.
Throughout Wilson’ s career, Wilmes said she made a major contribution to Halliburton’ s success.
Wilmes thanked Wilson for setting the standard.
“ You represent the very best of Halliburton,” he said.“ We’ re grateful for you and your family that supported you over many decades.”
The new exhibit will consist of a timeline for while Mr. Halliburton was alive.
