Stewart shared about not just wanting inclusion and diversity , but letting yourself see diversity and changes within the community .
“ The only way we ’ re going to change this is just by living life ,” she said .
The speaker lineup for “ Creators of Change ” concluded with its final two keynote speakers , Superintendent Duncan Public Schools Dr . Channa Byerly and Senior Account Manager with Eli Lily and Company Kimber Budowsky .
Dr . Byerly addressed the room full of women about promoting positive emotions , developing problem solving skills and how someone can influence others .
During her talk , Dr . Byerly shared two things you can control in your life : Your “ attitude and effort .”
First , Byerly addressed how to promote positive emotions in students and schools today .
“ If you have a positive attitude , it can take you anywhere that you want ; it doesn ’ t matter your circumstance ,” she said . “ That ’ s what you control .”
Next , Byerly talked to ladies about how to develop problem solving skills and how to take a problem , find a solution and begin to achieve success .
“ We ’ re teaching our kids that learning to succeed , is learning to fail ,” she said . “ That ’ s hard as an adult , nobody wants to just stink at something .”
Byerly shared how to teach students that in every opportunity , there ’ s an opportunity to learn .
“ You can learn what not to do , just as much as you can learn what to do in a situation ,” she said .
“ As long as you keep moving , as long as you can get back up . This is the message we have to tell our youth — set big dreams , go after it , if something happens , that doesn ’ t mean your world is over and you can ’ t go .
“ If we want change in our kids , if we want to see kids resilient , we have to equip them to be ready for all the problems they ’ re going to have ,” she said . “ It means get back up , you can do this , you can focus , you can go .”
Byerly also left attendees with the challenge to be a mentor to a child .
To wrap up the the day , Budowsky shared a few things she believes are
helpful tips to live by and how to develop a work-life balance .
Budowsky talked about how to stop looking for balance , but to start looking for harmony .
“ My harmony in my family is never going to look like my job share partner ’ s ,” she said .
The last thing Budowsky talked about was thinking about all of life ’ s choices as “ rubber balls and glass balls .”
“ We ’ re juggling all of the things and we feel like everything we ’ re juggling is glass and if we drop one of them , it shatters and the world ends , but it doesn ’ t ,” she said . “ Tons of the stuff we ’ re juggling are rubber balls and just a few of them are glass balls .”
Budowsky shared how the rubber balls are one ’ s that will bounce and you can drop it , pick it up , someone else might pick it up , it may roll away or there ’ s not much change .
“ The glass balls ,” she said , “ those are the ones that if you drop them , they shatter and a lot of the times they can be put back together , they ’ re just a lot harder .” DM
