She also touched on being a mentor and empowering yourself and others .
During a question and answer segment , Garvin addressed one of her bills from this session . That bill , she said , provided a portion of sales tax from menstrual products to the health department to provide period products to women .
“ It provides menstrual products for women that live under period poverty ,” she said of Senate Bill 1499 .
“ I felt like , because of the fact that we have women who end up in the hospital for infections , the long-term goal should be to eliminate the reasons that women are in the hospital for infections ,” Garvin said . “ There are women who live in period poverty — 50 % or more of them have had to choose between food and menstrual products in a year .”
Garvin said she has a very unique position as a woman , a mother and as a republican to support policies that impact women .
“ One of the biggest interim studies that I did this session was to do a study about women ’ s issues in the State of Oklahoma , and trying to propel women ’ s issues to the forefront ,” she said . “ I will be filing a lot of legislation this session that will impact women in the State of Oklahoma in a very positive way .” She also touched on how important it is to get “ involved in the political process , no matter what side of the aisle that you ’ re on .”

Callahan began by talking about who your advisors are .
“ Your peers ,” she said . “ People like you , your truth tellers — the people that challenge you .”
According to Callahan , these are your safe space people .
“ Your advisors , if you cultivate these correctly , should be vast and different from you ,” she said .
Next , Callahan addressed sponsors in life .
“ All the decisions made about your career are when you ’ re not in the room ,” she said .
Callahan said you want to have sponsors in life .
“ It ’ s your hype squad ,” she said . “ People who know good things about you .”
