ment. She checked out every Thursday. She also had to go in and get shots for her immunity. She returned home to Duncan for the weekends.
“ They just had to treat it aggressively. I got to see myself bald,” Rochell said.
She maintains a great attitude and even has a sense of humor.
“ But the beauty in it, there’ s always a simple answer, because I found out I have a really good head. I was like, man, my bald head and there’ s no lumps on it. I survived and I know I look good with a pixie cut.”
She said the flying pigs remind her of hope and possibility.
“ I have them all over the house, strategically, but when I find them, I’ m reminded that anything is possible. And the most beautiful part about it is my son.”
Rochell said that as it passed through her body and infected the uterus, it metastasized. Doctors also discovered eight spots in her lungs by the time they discovered it. At the time, she felt completely healthy. The cancer acted as a twin in the uterus, in a separate hidden sack behind her son.“ And my son is a feisty little guy.” At the time, her doctor said she could have a hysterectomy, but guaranteed she would probably want to another child. And she did. Her second son is now 8 years old.
“ I was hesitant to have another.”
There was no cancer, but her second child came two months early and was a breach delivery, without drugs, which she advises against.
“ I don’ t know what was worse, cancer, or that kid coming out of me,” she said.
These days, Rochell enjoys being a full-time stay-athome mom, with complete support of her husband.
“ He knows how important it is.”
To help make some extra money, she has jumped into the reselling world. Collecting flying pigs was only the beginning. She stocks a small booth at Trendy Treasures with a variety of new and old finds, from home décor and quirky finds.
“ This reselling is kind of just for fun. Me and mom do it so we have fun. But the flying pigs, that’ s where it results from, because anything’ s possible. And when you’ re down in the dumps, just know that the possibility of flying pigs, well if that can happen, anything is possible.”
